The interactive map

The Web site 10,000 words give viewers the chance to see how the use for maps are growing.

For example, there is a FluTracker map that identifies existing cases of swine flu. The map tracks cases from around the world and not just a particular region. The  map is  color coded with a display key below. It  is very interactive.  The viewers can zoom in for closer view of the reported cases in a certain state and even city, as well as a brief description. It also gives the number of suspected cases, not just the confirmed cases. The number of fatal cases are given too.

The Geography of Jobs was interesting. The map tracks job gains and jobs losts in the United States. The time range is from 2004 to the present. There is a moving time line  and as it slide from 2004 to 2010 the circles: green represents job gains and red represents job loses, either get bigger or smaller. The increase in job loses does not increase until 2008, according to the maps large red circles. This was expected because that is when the recession hit the United States pretty hard.

The last map was the Trendsmap. This maps tracks the popular trends/ topic for each state and around the globe.  I did not find this map as interesting as the first two, may be because I am not a big twitter fan yet
